Illegal strikers back at work

Striking workers from the Energy and Electricity  Directorate of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality have returned to their posts.

They've been engaged in an illegal week-long strike centering around allowances.

Municipal spokesperson Mthubanzi Mniki told AlgoaFM News a short while ago that the striking staff members returned to work on Friday morning.

Details of the agreement have not yet been released.

The power was off in as many as 12 suburbs in the Metro during the strike because of cable faults and other problems.

Workers refused to attend to the problems and some areas have been without power since last Saturday, as a result.

Mniki said areas that are without power would receive priority, now that the striking workers are back.

Nelson Mandela Bay residents escaped load shedding the past week as the striking workers are also responsible for the control centre from where Eskom's load shedding schedule is implemented.
