Hawks recover slain cop's gun

The Hawks in the Eastern Cape have confirmed that they have recovered the service pistol of slain Bay policeman, Constable Callan Andrews.

Andrews's service pistol was snatched when he was gunned down in Helenvale on New Year's Eve in the area.

Moments before his death, he assisted in pushing a police vehicle which had broken down.

Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson, Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana, says police recovered the firearm on Tuesday.

According to Mhlakuvana, the investigation around the service pistol will start to unfold.

This means that the firearm would among others be sent for ballistic testing.

The two additional suspects arrested in connection with the murder are meanwhile set to appear in the city's Magistrates Court later on Wednesday.

A 17-year-old boy has already been charged with the murder and robbery.

He appeared at Nerina House Youth Centre, where the case was postponed to next month.
