Guard takes own life outside Cleary Park shopping Centre

Police in Gqeberha have opened up an inquest docket after a security guard shot himself outside the Cleary Park Shopping Centre.

Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the incident happened during lunchtime on Tuesday.

She says three security guards from Fidelity were parked outside the centre where they waited to fetch cash from one of the retailers.

Colonel Naidu says it is further alleged that two guards were seated in the front of the vehicle while another one was standing guard outside.

She says the guard who was outside indicated that he was not feeling well and then jumped into the back of the van where he shot himself in the head.

He sustained a gunshot wound to the side of his head and died instantly.

The name and age of the victim is not yet known.
