The bail hearing of Greenbushes murder accused Brendin Rossouw has been postponed to the 6th of February in the Gqeberha Magistrate's court

Roussouw is charged with murdering his neighbour, 32-year-old Riaan Marais, who died in hospital two days after being stabbed over an argument about his dog earlier this month.

Colonel Priscilla Naidu says an altercation broke out in Melkhout Street in Greenbushes between Rossouw and Marais.

Naidu said an initial report suggested that Rossouw approached Marais shortly before 9 pm on behalf of his girlfriend to complain about his dog.

It is alleged that Rossouw picked up a knife and stabbed Marais in the head when the argument became heated.

Colonel Naidu says Rossouw went to the Kabega Park police station to open a case of assault against Marais but was arrested on the spot.

Marais was laid to rest last week after a sponsored cremation.

Marais' fiancée Erica Minnie and his mother Erika Radman huddled together outside of the courtroom while the girlfriend of Roussouw spent hours on the phone finding alternative addresses for him, should he be granted bail.

In his last court appearance, it was found that Rossouw had no pending cases or outstanding warrants of arrest against him.

By late afternoon a new address had been found and a court postponement to 6 February was granted for verification.

Minnie told AlgoaFM news that the last two weeks had been a whirlwind.

She said all she wanted was justice for the father of her five-year-old child so she can move on with her life.

“My life has never been the same again and as a result I have not gone back to Greenbushes,” she said.

“I only went back to work this week and even that has been a struggle.”

Asked whether she would feel safe if Rossouw was given bail she said no.

Marais’ mother, who lives in Despatch, was clad in a t-shirt with Marais’ face on it.

She said she would only be happy if there was justice.

“That means, no bail for him” she said, referring to the accused.
