More than 100 pets from disadvantaged homes were sterilised free of charge in Great Brak River on Saturday.
This community action that involves five vets, the Garden Route SPCA and more than thirty volunteers, is an annual event known as the Sterithon.
Pets in the area are identified and collected by the SPCA and apart from the sterilisation they are bathed, dipped and vaccinated after before being handed back to their owners.
Great Brak River vet, Jean du Plessis, says Cause for Paws "is a charity organisation that was started a few years ago by the community of Great Brak River."
He said it was started to assist people who could not afford normal veterinary services.
"This is our seventh or eighth annual spaying marathon where we sterilise about 100 animals on the day. It's something that has made a huge impact on the community and the condition of the animals has certainly improved since we started," he said.
