An Atlas Security officer was wounded during an armed robbery in Central in Gqeberha on Friday.
The officer is said to have undergone surgery in the afternoon.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said that the security officer was stationed on the corners of Rose and Western Streets in Central when he was approached by unknown men.
“They attempted to rob the official of his phone. When the official reacted, he was shot twice in his abdomen,” she said.

Naidu said the suspects ran off with his firearm, but shortly afterward a suspect was arrested nearby by Metro police.
“A firearm was found in his possession.”
She said suspect, in his 20s, was detained on charges of armed robbery, attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
He will appear in court on Monday and the search for his accomplice is continuing.
