The 32-year-old man arrested for the alleged murder of 8-year-old Taslin Lucas has been released.
The suspect's release, pending further investigation, comes less than 24 hours after his arrest.
On Thursday, Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said DNA samples that had been taken from the man will be sent for forensic analysis.
According to Naidu, the man was however detained on a warrant of arrest on charges of housebreaking and theft that had taken place in Walmer in September last year.
"He is remanded in custody until 10 August for a formal bail application.
"The murder investigation is continuing," said Naidu.
Irate members of the community found the man at the 5th Avenue dumping site on Wednesday afternoon and assaulted him.
A security vehicle stopped and intervened.
Initial police reports stated that the man is believed to be the boyfriend of the deceased girl's mother.
Taslin's body was found on 24 July in Airport Valley.
She had sustained visible burn wounds on her body and was never reported as missing.
