Eastern Cape police are mourning the loss of an officer who died in an accident in bad weather conditions in Nelson Mandela Bay on Saturday night.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, identified the officer as Constable Elroy May (39).
He was a member of the anti-gang unit.
Naidu said May was a passenger in a police vehicle that crashed on the R75 Despatch Road early in the evening.
“According to a witness, the driver of the state vehicle lost control and rolled against the embankment and then landed on its roof,” she said.
Constable May died on the scene.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened for further investigation.
