Ten suspects have appeared briefly in the George Magistrate's court on charges of public violence following last week's torching of 4 GO GEORGE buses at the town.
Southern Cape Police spokesperson Captain Malcome Pojie says the case has been postponed to next Monday the 31st of August for a formal bail application.
Last week, four Go George buses, valued at 15 million rand in total, were torched by angry taxi operators, who claimed they had not been properly consulted regarding the Go George Bus system.
In a statement released on Monday, Western Cape Transport and Public Works Minister Donald Grant, said law enforcement agencies had worked hard to restore calm, allowing the service to resume in certain areas of George since Friday afternoon. The full service is set to be restored this week.
Grant said the outpouring of support from the community is testament to how crucial the service has become to the people of George in its first three phases of implementation. He said his department would continue with the planned roll-out in the next few phases to Thembalethu and surrounds.
