Go George bus service back on track after buses torched

The George Municipality says the GO GEORGE bus system recommenced service on Friday and a limited service was available from Saturday morning.

Municipality spokesperson, Chantel Edwards-Klose, said the situation would be continuously monitored and reassessed.

On Friday police had to make use of stun grenades to control an angry crowd of taxi owners and protestors who are demanding that the George Integrated Public Transport Network be halted and renegotiated.

Police and traffic authorities also conducted roadblocks throughout George and continued to confiscate taxis that were involved in Wednesday's violent protests, in which busses worth R15 million were torched.
