The body of a 10-year-old girl with burn wounds was discovered at a vandalised house in Airport Valley in Gqeberha on Monday afternoon.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said police officers of the Walmer police station responded to a complaint of a body lying in the house at approximately 17:00.
"On arrival, members of the community pointed out the body of a girl. She had visible burn wounds on her body.
According to information given to the police, the girl was last seen on Friday.
She had not been reported missing.
Naidu said that even though the girl had been identified, a formal identification will be done before her identity can be released.
The motive for the murder is unknown and the police investigation is ongoing.
