A policeman stationed at the George magistrate’s court has been arrested for allegedly smuggling drugs into the courthouse.
The Hawks in the Western Cape said the 34-year-old Constable was arrested on Monday on charges of corruption and dealing in drugs.
Provincial spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, the police officer, was allegedly receiving money for his services and smuggling drugs into the court cells for prisoners.
He said during the arrest, police found 11 mandrax tablets, one packet of cannabis and R300.00, which he allegedly received as gratification, in his possession.
Vukubi said the policeman will make his first court appearance on Tuesday.
