George mayor, Charles Standers, says there's been a generally positive response to the introduction of phase three of the city's Go George bus service.
Standers was commenting after a protest earlier this week by disgruntled taxi operators in the George and surrounding areas.
In a memorandum to Standers they claim, amongst others things, that there had been no proper consultation prior to the introduction of the pilot project last December.
However, Standers told Councillors at a meeting yesterday that the GO GEORGE service has proved to provide a dependable, safe and affordable commuting service to all.
He said there are three parties to the tri-party George Integrated Public Transport Network agreement, which was implemented as an intergovernmental, public-private partnership.
These are the Western Cape Department of Transport, the formalised taxi industry and the George Municipality.
