The family of 8-year-old Recolin Witbooi, whose death remains a mystery was offered a glimmer of hope when Patriotic Alliance Leader Gayton McKenzie vowed to make sure that the matter is revisited.
McKenzie made the announcement in Gelvandale in Gqeberha on Sunday, at a prayer service that was held for the missing 6-year-old from Saldanha, Joslin Smith.
Recolin disappeared on 6 July 2019 after playing with his friends in Uranus Street in Barcelona, Helenvale.
At the time, his friends claimed that they left him behind when they went home.
An extensive search was launched by members of the community before Recolin's skeletal remains were found in Malabar, in September.
By October 2019, DNA analysis done on the remains positively linked it to that of Recolin.
The results of a post-mortem could not confirm Recolin's cause of death, which meant that the docket remained an inquest.
Recolin's stepfather Clive Domingo, who attended Sunday's prayer session, recalled the day he went missing nearly five years ago.
He mentioned how the PA's Marlon Daniels vowed to fight for justice for Recolin when police indicated that they would close the case.
McKenzie said they had been helping children behind the scenes, long before Joslin's case garnered the media's attention, and that it had nothing to do with electioneering.
