A teenager is expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of attempted murder for allegedly hacking his father with an axe last week.
Free State police spokesperson, Mamello Mokhuoane says the incident happened on Wednesday at the Moeletsi hostel in Thabong.
He says it is alleged that the suspect and his father had an argument, which led to a fight between the two.
Mokhuoane says the man allegedly strangled his 19-year-old son, who then took an axe and hacked his father several times on the head and fled the scene on foot.
The man was rushed to hospital in a serious condition.
The son was later arrested and is being detained pending his court appearance.
