An Eastern Cape woman has been jailed for 10 years for stealing more than R1.5 million rand from a group of Grahamstown advocates.
Thirty-three-year-old Thalitha Berriman was jailed in the PE Commercial Crimes court on Tuesday in terms of a plea and sentence agreement with the state.
She admitted making unauthorised payments of more than R1.5 million rand from the bank accounts of the advocates practicing at Equity House in Grahamstown where she had worked as a secretary and receptionist.
According to court documents, Berriman was a signatory to the bank account and was also in possession of a debit card linked to the account.
The thefts took place between 2006 and 2014.
