The National Sea Rescue Institute in Port Elizabeth was notified by Transnet National Ports Authority that a fisherman went overboard some 40 nautical miles South West of Cape Recife on Sunday afternoon.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says it appears that the man was not wearing a life-jacket.
He says Maritime Authorities were alerted, and a search was conducted by the fishing vessel SANDILE.
Lambinon says no sign of the fisherman was found, and he is presumed drowned.
