The Eastern Cape Transport Department says 11 people were killed and 14 others sustained injuries following a collision between a minibus and a passenger bus at Flagstaff on Sunday.
Department spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said that the two vehicles collided head-on, on R61 road in Flagstaff at Dlibona towards Lusikisiki.
He said the double-decker bus with 18 passengers was travelling from Lusikisiki, while the mini-bus with 16 passengers was coming from the direction of Flagstaff.
Binqose said nine adults and two children were declared dead on the scene among the deceased.
He said six critically injured people were rushed to a hospital while the mini-bus driver sustained “minor” injuries.
The circumstances surrounding the cause of the crash still unknown at this stage while Flagstaff police will be investigating a culpable homicide docket.
