Eastern Cape police said a tip-off led to the arrest of a 54-year-old East London taxi owner for being in the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and SAPS uniform belts.
Lieutenant-Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said members of the Tactical Response Team executed a search warrant at a property in Mzamomhle Township in Gonubie late Thursday afternoon.
This followed a tip-off that the suspect was in possession of the unlicensed gun as well as drugs.
She said the TRT members searched the property seizing various items including the firearm which had the serial number removed.
Colone Mawisa said the taxi owner faces a further charge of failing to safeguard his own firearm and ammunition which was also confiscated.
She said the man will appear in court soon in the EL Magistrate's Court.
