EL man goes on trial in December for triple murder

File

A trial date has finally been set for a 32-year-old man charged with the murder of three teenagers in Mdantsane in November last year.

Siphelele Jako reportedly stormed into an outbuilding in Unit 1 where four learners were studying for their final exams and opened fire.

He was allegedly looking for a man with whom he had an earlier altercation, when he came across the teenagers, Somila Soso and siblings, Ume and Likuye Ndambiyana, and opened fire, riddling their bodies with bullets.

The teens, aged between 17 and 19, were studying for the grade 11 Physical Science and grade 12 Life Science papers they were due to write on that Monday.

One boy died on the scene while other two died in hospital.  A fourth teenager, Liyema Diyasi from Mzomhle High School, was the sole survivor.

Jako has been appearing in the Mdantsane Magistrates Court, before his case was last week transferred to the Bhisho High Court for trial.

He faces three counts of murder and one of attempted murder.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali, said trial is scheduled to run from 2 to 6 December, to give the key witness, Dyasi, a chance to finish his matric examinations.
