EL lawyer in court for theft of RAF funds

The Hawks in the Eastern Cape said an EC attorney appeared in court on Monday for the alleged theft of Road Accident Fund money meant for clients.

Hawks provincial spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said 41-year-old Masixole Bangiso, was arrested by the Hawks during the early morning hours of Monday morning.

She said it is alleged that Bangiso had not paid over R500 000 to a client involved in a motor car accident in Fitzpatrick Street in East London in April 2021.

Mgolodela said the client was hospitalised for five weeks due to the severity of the injuries and later a claim was lodged with the RAF on her behalf which was not paid over to her.

She said the Hawks investigation revealed that the money Bangiso told his client was her RAF payment, was a payout for another client, leading to the RAF being “prejudiced” in the amount of R1m.

Mgolodela said Bangiso was granted bail of R4000,00 and the matter was remanded to 11 October.
