An Eastern Cape local government councillor was among three people shot dead in two incidents reported in the Qumbu area earlier this week.
Provincial police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, said the shootings occurred on Tuesday.
In one attack, two people travelling on a gravel road in the Balasi Administrative Area were ambushed by gunmen in a double-cab bakkie.
The two occupants of the vehicle, aged 27 and 47 were declared dead at the scene.
Police identified the deceased as Bandla Xhentsa (47), and Lindani Dube (27), reportedly a well-known racehorse owner and his jockey.
Meanwhile, in another incident, on the same day, ward councilor, Mkhululi Khonza, was fatally wounded while inside his vehicle, also in the Balasi Administrative Area.
No arrests have yet been made in both cases.
