Police management in the Eastern Cape is mourning the death of a member who was killed in an accident near Tsolo on Monday.
Provincial spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa, said four other officers were injured and rushed to a hospital for treatment.
She said the five officers from the Mthatha K9 Unit, were following on a tip-off about a house robbery in Port Edward with the suspects heading towards Qumbu.
Mawisa said the officers were traveling in two vehicles when they were involved in an accident with a minibus and another vehicle.
One person in one of the other vehicles was injured, according to SAPS.
Police opened a case of culpable homicide for further investigation.
Mawisa meanwhile said the two-armed robbery suspects were eventually arrested.
She said the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene and her management extended their condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the 49-year-old Warrant Officer.
