Two kidnapping suspects were denied bail in the East London Magistrate’s Court on Friday while two others abandoned their bids for bail
The National Prosecuting Authority said Vuyani Memani (48) and Mandisi Ngonzo (40) were refused bail while their co-accused Nkosibonile Mgede(43) and Siphelele Feni (40) reportedly abandoned their bail application.
NPA regional spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali, said the suspects were arrested by members of the provincial kidnapping task team, working together with Flying Squad from eQonce (KWT).
He said their arrest related to the kidnapping of a teacher on the N2 near East London while driving a school bus.
“The suspects allegedly ordered him into an unknown vehicle to an unknown place.
Subsequently, due to the pressure exerted upon the suspects by the team the victim was released after a couple of days unharmed,” Tyali said.
While the victim was being held captive his home in Gonubie had been ransacked by other suspects.
The matter was remanded to 27 June for further investigations.
