The estranged husband of a Mthatha doctor has been denied bail in the city’s Magistrate's Court.
The National Prosecuting Authority said today that 51-year-old Siphiwo Mngxali is facing two counts of attempted murder, theft, and breach of a protection order.
This relates to a case of theft in February at a B&B in Fort Gale, during which shots were fired at a helper and her husband who were on the property at the time.
NPA spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali, said the court found that the prosecution was able to place Mngxali at the scene of the theft, which he allegedly committed with an accomplice.
“Prior to the alleged theft, his estranged wife had been granted an interim protection order by the court, preventing him from entering these premises,” he said.
Mngxali was first arrested on 8 March and made several court appearances since then.
The matter was postponed to 5 May.
