A 37-year-old Eastern Cape doctor appeared in court in eMaxesibeni (Mount Ayliff) on Wednesday for allegedly raping a patient in a consulting room at the local hospital.
The National Prosecuting Authority said the Doctor was arrested on Tuesday.
NPA regional spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali, said it is alleged that the doctor had overpowered and raped the woman after the woman went to the hospital last Thursday.
He said when a nurse returned to the consulting room, the door was locked and she had to knock before the Doctor opened it.
Tyali says the “visibly shaking” patient reported the incident to the nurse and her friend who had accompanied her to the facility.
He said the case against the medical doctor was postponed to next Wednesday for a formal bail application.
