East London doctor arrested for tax fraud

An East London doctor appeared in court on Monday on tax fraud charges.

The Hawks in the Eastern Cape said Dr Karunlingam Chetty, is alleged to have under-declared his income to the SA Revenue Services (SARS) to the amount of R1.8 million.

Spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, says he was formally arrested on Monday after SARS allegedly picked up red flags during an audit.

She says Chetty was released on bail of R10 000 and his case was postponed to the 19th of September.
