A 67-year-old East London doctor and her 37-year-old assistant were arrested on fraud charges by the Hawks and the police's Crime intelligence Unit at their surgery near the CBD on Wednesday.
They both made a brief appearance in the city's Magistrates Court and were released on warning.
Doctor Siphokazi Sokupa and her assistant Cwaita Mngqibisa will appear in court again on the 19th of June.
Hawks regional spokesperson, Captain Anelisa Feni, says it is alleged that they fraudulently issued six sick notes to an undercover police member.
She says they received complaints from a Government department who claimed they got several sick notes from the same doctor. She says an undercover operation was then launched.
Feni says the doctor then allegedly issued a sick certificate to the undercover policeman, without conducting an examination on the 'patient'.
