Some healthcare workers at Livingstone Hospital in Gqeberha have embarked on a go-slow over unpaid overtime.
This was confirmed by the spokesperson for the Eastern Cape Department of Health, Sizwe Kupelo, who appealed for patience as the hospital is operating with a skeleton staff.
He says services have therefore been slightly affected.
Kupelo says those who have embarked on the go-slow include doctors, nurses, porters, general workers, food services, cleaners, drivers and more.
He says they expect services to be back to normal soon as payment will be processed on the next two Persal runs on Wednesday and then again on the 23rd of February.
Kupelo says the payments will include other staff who are also owed overtime.
In 2022, Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Health said Gqeberha’s Livingstone Hospital is in a bad state and does not deserve to be called a hospital.
