A police task team consisting of members from Maluti and Matatiele have re-arrested an escapee who is facing charges of kidnapping, robbery and attempted murder.
The 32-year old suspect was re-arrested in the mountainous area of Matatiele on Friday.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says that at the time of his arrest, the suspect was found in possession of stolen property, including car keys, a cell phone, laptop, and router.
The suspect was one of five awaiting trial prisoners that escaped from police holding cells in Maluti in November 2022.
He was awaiting trial for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, housebreaking and theft of a motor vehicle at the time of his escape.
The suspect appeared in the Maluti Magistrate's court on Monday on these charges as well as escaping from lawful custody.
He is remanded in custody and will appear in the Matatiele magistrate's court on Tuesday on charges of kidnapping, robbery and attempted murder.
