The NSRI said a 50-year-old man from Cape Town was bitten by a shark while surfing at Supertubes in Jeffreys Bay on Wednesday.

Spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, said the NSRI Jeffreys Bay duty crew was alerted to the incident at 17.30 on Wednesday following reports from a bystander requesting access to a shark bite kit.

“The bystander accessed the kit and initiated first aid treatment to the man.”

He said NSRI medics, NSRI Jeffreys Bay duty crew, Guardmed Ambulance Services, Private Care Ambulance Services, and EC Government EMS responded to the scene.

“On arrival on the scene medical treatment was continued to the man who was in a stable condition and in good spirits. He has been transported to hospital in stable condition by Guardmed Ambulance,” Lambinon added.

He said the NSRI and local authorities were appealing to the public to be cautious in the area following this incident.
