A 64-year-old man and his wife were tied on Sunday night during a home invasion in Humansdorp.
Spokesperson for police Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the couple was watching TV at about 10.30 pm when three unknown men entered the house with firearms.
She says the man was tied up with cable ties, assaulted and locked in the bathroom while his wife was tied up in the living room.
Colonel Naidu says they proceeded to ransack the house and eventually fled with the owner's firearm, household goods and his Toyota Fortuner.
She says the homeowner managed to free himself and rode by boat to a neighbouring farm to seek assistance.
Colonel Naidu says excellent collaboration between police in Gqeberha, Thornhill and Kariega assisted in flagging the vehicle that was found abandoned near Thornhill with all the contents removed.
She says another VW vehicle was seen following the Fortuner and the car was spotted shortly after midnight on the R102 near Kruisrivier heading towards Kariega.
Police managed to stop the vehicle and arrested three men and one woman.
Colonel Naidu says three firearms were recovered as well as all the stolen goods.
She says the four suspects aged between 35 and 64 are expected to appear in court soon to face charges of possession of suspected stolen goods and illegal firearms.
Naidu says as soon as the suspects can be positively linked to the home invasion they will face additional charges.
She says the homeowner sustained mild injuries.
