A man convicted of raping and assaulting his girlfriend in Gqeberha in October 2022 has been granted bail and is now on the run.
Andisiwe Maholwana, 29, raped his 31-year-old girlfriend in Solomon Mahlanqu in Walmer while also contravening a protection order.
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says Maholwana was arrested and found guilty almost eight months after the crime.
She says he was released on bail and due in court a few weeks later for a pre-sentencing report.
Maholwana never showed up, and an arrest warrant was issued.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says his last known address was in Pawulosi Street in Walmer, but detectives cannot trace him.
