Police said a consignment of cocaine worth an estimated R65 million was seized from a vessel that had entered the country’s waters from Brazil.
National spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, said police were acting on “intelligence” when they searched a vessel as it was docking at the port in Gqeberha on Thursday.
She said they found 35 blocks of cocaine.
Mathe said no arrests were made, and SAPS was investigating a case of trafficking in drugs.
She noted that this was the third big drug bust in three weeks, with the two previous cocaine seizures in Kwazulu Natal valued at an estimated R150 million.
National Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, commended the investigating team, saying that South Africa was “not a playground for criminals.”
