CIT robbery at liquor store in Gqeberha's Cape Road

Police in Gqeberha are investigating a cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery that took place outside a liquor store on Cape Road on Friday.

Spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says at about half past two in the afternoon a private security company was collecting money from the shop situated in Newton Park.

She says when the guard exited the shop he was robbed.

The suspect grabbed the money bag and jumped into a waiting getaway vehicle, a Toyota bakkie, that was parked outside.

Captain Janse van Rensburg says it is further alleged that shots were fired as the suspects were fleeing.

She says while the crime scene was being processed a firearm was found at the back of a bakkie that was standing at a robot in Disa Avenue.

The gun will be sent for ballistic testing to see if it is linked to the robbery or any other cases.

No arrests have been made.
