Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is calling on residents to join in a mass prayer session for rain today as the city's water woes deepen.
The Prayer Service for Rain will take place from 2pm - 5 pm today at the Gelvandale Stadium.
In a short video posted on the Metro's Facebook page earlier this month, Constituency Services political head, Rano Kayser said he believes through prayer and divine intervention the Metro can overcome this crisis.
The Impofu Dam, which is the Metro's largest catchment dam, is now so low at 6.87% that water is no-longer being extracted from it - the Impofu was officially decommissioned by Mayor Retief Odendaal last weekend.
There is currently about 8.5% of water available in Nelson Mandela Bay's main supply dams
"We believe that through prayer and divine intervention we can overcome this crisis," said Kayser.
"We, as the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, invite all residents and stakeholders to the Gelvandale Stadium this afternoon where we will take hands and pray for rain so that we can overcome this crisis in our Metro."
Meanwhile: some welcome rain fell over large parts of the Eastern Cape overnight - including in Nelson Mandela Bay's main catchment area in the Langkloof.
Kareedouw received a welcome 22 mm of rain, Patensie 3.4 mm and Joubertina 2 mm.
In the Metro itself, 10 mm was measured at the airport, 17.6 mm at Third Avenue Dip in Newton Park and 29.6 mm at St Albans.
Good falls of 27.5 mm were reported from George, 9.2 mm at Makhanda and 10.8 mm at Bhisho.
