Gqeberha police have made a breakthrough in the Chatty triple murder case.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said three suspects were arrested on Friday following the murders of Christopher Mentoor (28), Darren Aphew (29) and Winston Clarke (30) in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Booysen Park.
They were burnt alive.
Colonel Naidu says the suspects – two men and a woman – were arrested in Extension 21 in Bethelsdorp on Friday and have been charged with murder, arson and assault to cause grievous bodily harm.
She said the suspects allegedly entered the house of one the deceased just after 01:00 in the morning.
The deceased was socialising with his girlfriend and three other friends at the time.
It is alleged that the suspects were looking for drugs.
Colonel Naidu said all the occupants were assaulted.
“One victim, a female was stabbed in the arm, and the second female had no visible injuries,” she said in a statement.
“Both females were outside the house when the suspects tied up the three males, poured petrol in the house and set it alight.”
The three victims were engulfed by the flames and burnt to death.
Their alleged killers are expected to appear in court on Monday.
