The National Sea Rescue Institute has confirmed that the body of one of the two men who went missing at sea at Victoria Bay has been recovered.
Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said that the body is believed to be that of a 17-year-old teenager who was reportedly caught in a rip current along with a 20-year-old man while swimming on Saturday.
He said the body was recovered on Wednesday by SAPS Water Policing and Diving Services (WPDS), assisted by NSRI Wilderness.
He said the police water wing is “continuing in an ongoing search operation.”
In an earlier statement, the NSRI said six local men had gone swimming at Victoria Bay on Saturday when the two were caught in the rip current.
Lambinon said their thoughts are with the families and friends of the men in this difficult time.
