East London police have opened an inquest docket after the body of a police Sergeant attached to the Cambridge Police station was discovered on Saturday.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the body of 36-year-old Sinethemba Msutu was found lying between rocks at West Bank Beach in East London.
She says Msutu was involved in a car accident in his private vehicle on the 30th of May and was taken to a private hospital for treatment.
Colonel Naidu says on the same night, a colleague picked him up and took him back to his police barracks in Cambridge, the following day, a fire broke out in his room but he was not there.
She says a missing person's report was opened on the same day.
Sergeant Msutu's body was spotted by a fisherman, at 2 pm on Saturday.
A post-mortem will be conducted to determine his cause of death.
Msutu's family who was desperately looking for him, took to social media to confirm that his body was found.
The family believes Sergeant Msutu was murdered due to the state his body was in.
They urged anyone with information to contact police as the family seeks closure.
