Body of missing EC teacher found near river in Lusikisiki

File

Eastern Cape police are investigating the murder of a teacher whose body was found near a river in the Mtsila locality in Lusikisiki on Saturday.

Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the husband of 34-year-old Yonela Mahlungulu reported her missing on Friday after she did not return home after leaving for school.

She said he also established that she had not arrived at school and that her cell phone was left at home in the Ngobazana Administrative Area in Lusikisiki.

Police picked up her vehicle’s tracker signal in the Bukuveni locality in Flagstaff, about 16 kilometres away, where they found blood stains in the boot and the keys in the ignition.

Investigators were able to trace the route that the car had travelled, and with the assistance of K9 search and rescue dog, Bond, and members of the community, Mahlungulu’s body was found next to a river at about 3 pm on Saturday.

She had sustained bullet wounds to the upper body.

Naidu said the motive for the murder is not yet known and anyone who may have information that could assist the police investigation should contact the Lusikisiki police.
