Police in Plettenberg Bay have opened an inquest docket after the body of an unidentified man was found floating in the water at Lookout Rocks.
NSRI station commander, Jaco Kruger, fishermen had reported seeing the man enter the water and reported this to Bitou shark spotters nearby who alerted municipal lifeguards.
He said when the NSRI duty and EMS crews arrived on the scene they found the lifeguards already in attendance.
Kruger said the body of the man was transferred onto their rescue craft and brought to shore.
Authorities appealed to anyone who may be able to assist in identifying the deceased to contact Plettenberg Bay police.
