Eastern Cape Government says it's hoping to convince the citizens of the United Arab Emirates that the province is a good holiday destination and also a good investment destination.
Bhisho said that the Eastern Cape was playing host to the President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheik Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his entourage.
"The UAE President is undertaking a private visit and is expected to explore the beauty of the Eastern Cape," said Provincial government spokesperson, Khuselwa Rantjie.
"The Eastern Cape Province and the UAE have a rich cultural heritage which should inspire future leaders on lessons about leadership, building on a foundation and friendship between former President Rholihlahla Nelson Mandela and former President, Sheik Zayed Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan."
"The province is working hard to strengthen trade relations with the UAE in various areas including education, agriculture, renewable energy, oil and gas, research and innovation as well as partnerships in the aviation economy," Rantjie said.
She said Bhisho was negotiating the possibility of a joint investment project to raise standards at the government-owned Bhisho Airport in line with the requirements of an International Cargo Airport as a start.
The Eastern Cape government said the Bhisho Airport has, in line with South Africa's protocols, been in the interim designated as a port of entry to enable the passage of the UAE leader.
"All relevant resources have been put in place at the airport to ensure adherence with the laws of the country," she said.
