Buffalo City Metro has assured motorists traveling in the region this summer of the City's unwavering commitment to ensure their safety.

Executive mayor, Princess Faku officially launched the Safer Festive Season Programme at the Braelyn Traffic Department on Friday.

This year's theme "Building Safer Communities" is to assure motorists travelling in the region this summer that the Metro is ready to safeguard their safety.

The mayor said; "This commitment is not just a promise; it is a pledge to uphold the values that make Buffalo City Metro a vibrant and secure place to live."

BCM Chief Traffic Commander, Quinton Chetty, advised motorists and pedestrians that road safety is everyone's responsibility.

He said there will be visible traffic policing and daily roadblocks and asked motorists to not be part of the statistics of fatalities on roads.

Chetty advised communities to comply with the regulations, make sure their cars are roadworthy, to not drink and drive and to wear their seat belts.

The launch continued with a roadblock at the Biko Bridge where the automated number-plate recognition bus was used to assist authorities in the collection of outstanding fines, the execution of outstanding warrants of arrest and the finalisation of traffic ticket cases.

In the Mayor's closing remarks she said; "Let us celebrate with joy, but let us also celebrate responsibly. Together, we can ensure that Buffalo City Metro remains a beacon of safety, warmth, and prosperity".
