Police in Gqeberha are investigating the kidnapping of a foreign national student following an incident in Gelvan Park on Saturday night.
Spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said the complainant and a friend were driving in a dark grey VW Tiguan when they were boxed in by two cars on the corner of Aubrey Street and Kobus Road at around 7 pm.
She said they were approached by two armed suspects who forced them out of the vehicle, before demanding money and taking their cell phones.
Janse Van Rensburg said the male driver of the VW Tiguan, Qays Mohamed Hersi Mohamoud, was forced into one of their vehicles and they drove off leaving the passenger behind.
She said the incident was reported at the Gelvandale police station, and the VW Tiguan was impounded for further investigation.
“The victim who was taken during the robbery is a 20-year-old foreign national student.
“The motive is unknown, and the victim is still missing.
“No demands were made, and the Gqeberha Provincial Organised Crime Investigation unit is busy with the investigation,” Janse Van Rensburg said.
Police also appealed to anyone who may have information that could assist police with the investigation to contact Detective WO Neville Gouws on 082 387 5904 or our SAPS CrimeStop number 08600 10111.
