Gqeberha police are investigating the kidnapping of a Chinese national from a shop in Govan Mbeki Avenue on Wednesday morning.
Captain Andre’ Beetge said the 47-year-old man was busy opening a shop when he was approached by three men who forced him into a Ford EcoSport and drove off.
He said the vehicle was later found abandoned in New Brighton and was seized for forensic analysis.
Beetge said a kidnapping case was opened and is being investigated by the SAPS Humewood.
Anyone who may have information that could assist the investigation should contact the police.
This is the second kidnapping case in Gqeberha in the past few days after a 21-year-old foreign national student was abducted in Gelvan Park on Saturday evening.
The Hawks confirmed that a ransom demand was made, adding that the victim, Qays Mohamed Hersi Mohamoud, has since been released.
It is not clear if a ransom was paid for his release.
