A wanted suspect on a double murder charge in Bethelsdorp made a brief appearance in the Gqeberha Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Manelisi “Maneli” Matoto was apprehended by members of the Silapha2 National Intervention Team in Gqeberha on Monday.
His arrest followed within a week after his picture was circulated.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the team received information about Matoto's whereabouts and proceeded to a house in the Fort Beaufort area where he was hiding from the police.
According to Janse van Rensburg, the team technically approached a house in Nzama Street in the Edakeni Section and the suspect was apprehended.
The murders that Matoto is charged with took place on 30 June in the SAPS Bethelsdorp policing precinct.
According to information released by police, Wayde Bowker, 25, was at Sweden Street in Timothy Valley at around 03:50 on the day of the murder when he was approached by two suspects.
The suspects were allegedly armed with a firearm and demanded cash and cell phones from Bowker.
During the robbery, Bowker was shot and died on the scene.
It is alleged that the suspects hijacked a white Opel Astra that was parked in the street.
At the time of the robbery, Heinrich Williams, 40, was asleep in the car.
Three male suspects and one female are said to have driven off with the vehicle.
The vehicle was found abandoned and burnt out in Siyavuka Street in Booysens Park later that morning.
Williams was found with a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Janse van Rensburg said as the investigation unfolded, Matoto was positively linked to the murder, and a warrant of arrest was issued.
Matoto is allegedly also linked to other murders within the Nelson Mandela Bay District.
During his court appearance on Wednesday, the case was postponed to Thursday for a formal bail application.
