Twelve learners from a school in Gqeberha have been injured in an accident on the N2 at Kareedouw involving their school bus.
Two adult teachers were also on board.
The Eastern Cape Health Department says they were en route to a sporting event in Knysna on Thursday when the accident happened.
Spokesperson, Sizwe Kupelo, says the mini-bus overturned, injuring the learners, one of whom is in critical condition.
He declined to name the school saying the situation was sensitive at this stage, although images of the school bus have already been shared by the Eastern Cape Department of Traffic.
Department spokesperson Unathi Bhinqose says it’s alleged that the driver lost control of the vehicle before it rolled.
A helicopter has been dispatched to the scene to airlift the critically injured patient to the nearest hospital.
The name of the school is known to Algoa FM News.
The story has been updated to specify that two passengers were adults.
