Bay cop arrested for allegedly offering money to get murder docket

A Gqeberha policeman has appeared in court in New Brighton on a charge of corruption after being busted by one of his colleagues.

Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says 56-year-old Warrant Officer Richard Zungu is currently behind bars.

She says it is alleged that he approached a Detective Sergeant last week and offered him money in exchange for a murder docket that is currently under investigation.

Colonel Naidu says the Detective reported the incident which led to Zungu's arrest.

He will remain in custody until his next court appearance on the 5th of December when he is expected to apply for bail.

Meanwhile, Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nomthetheleli Mene has strongly condemned the unethical and corrupt behaviour of Warrant-Officer Richard Zungu of New Brighton SAPS.

Murder docket requested

Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the docket WO Zungu wanted was for a double murder that took place in the New Brighton precinct in July this year.

She says the 23-year-old Bagcine Sith and 29-year-old Andile Williams were both shot in the head at a house in Mhambehlala Street in the early hours of the morning on the 19th of July.

A warrant of arrest has since been issued for 35-year-old Luthando Bagfani whose whereabouts are unknown.
