An Atlas security officer was rushed to hospital on Monday night after sustaining multiple head wounds during an attack in Central in Gqeberha.
A spokesperson for Atlas Ryan Morris says their officer was patrolling Western Road when at about 9 pm when he came across multiple suspects assaulting someone on the side of the road.
He says the officer did not hesitate to intervene but when he stopped his car the suspects turned on him and dragged him out of his vehicle.
Morris says the officer was assaulted with several objects but managed to draw his firearm and fired two warning shots.
The three suspects, however, manage to disarm him and fled with his gun and his cell phone.
Morris says their officer is expected to make a full recovery.
