Arnold Terblanche gets R1 million bail

Gqeberha murder-accused Arnold Terblanche has been granted bail of R1 million in the Makhanda High Court.

The local businessman stands accused of murdering his estranged wife Vicki Terblanche.

Terblanche's attorney, Alwyn Griebenow, confirmed to AlgoaFM News that an order was granted setting aside a previous order in the local Magistrate's Court refusing him bail.

This was his third attempt at bail following his arrest in November 2021, just weeks after Vicki's body was found buried in a shallow grave at Greenbushes.

Griebenow says certain conditions were attached to Terblanche's release on bail.

"One of the conditions is that he hands over all travel documents in his possession to the investigating officer, that he attends court on each and every day as told and that he does not interfere with state witnesses."

"A further condition is that Terblanche, once released on bail, will be subject to house arrest from 8 pm to 6 am.

Griebenow said he will ensure that Terblanche's bail is paid and that he is released as soon as possible.

Terblanche will be back in court in Gqeberha on Friday.

He is only the second murder-accused in South African legal history to be granted bail of R1 million after Oscar Pistorius.

The 'blade runner' is currently serving time for the murder of his hi-profile model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
